The Idea

The Return Route is a boat race intended to honor Christopher Columbus by following the
route of his return voyage in 1493 from Santo Domingo to the Azores and on to Lisbon.

This race which will be run every few years starting in the year 2010 is in its planning
stages and we are looking for sponsors as well as participants.

This race leaves from Santo Domingo on May 20th (date of Columbus's death).

All entries will be wind powered boats.
There will be diferent categories allowed for single sailor to tall ships.

There will be no limit on how many boats can enter.
The idea is to build a race that allows the sailor to choose his type boat and to build an eclectic regatta.

The race route will have an obstacle course type of format through the islands of the Azores.
